Join Javan K. Bernakevitch founder of Permaculture BC and co-founder of the Southern Vancouver Island Permablitz network for an hour of stories from the permaculture front lines. From a conventional upbringing, fed a steady diet of television and fast food Javan developed a passion of the outdoors and bush skills. Working in environmental education for the Government of Alberta he saw a large disconnect with holding ever more firmly to the "natural" environment creating obstacles for ecological succession. After operating an environmental education company in Edmonton, AB and at the top of his field, his realized that most if not all of his work was REACTIVE versus PROACTIVE. With this realization in mind he moved to Vancouver Island to learn about natural building to begin change where we live and found permaculture, taking the change even deeper to HOW WE LIVE.

Now four years later, dozens of projects and teaching engagements Javan brings his experience and his tutelage as Richard Walker's apprentice, his studies with Sepp Holzer and Geoff Lawton, Jude Hobbs, Michael Nickels and Brandon Bauer to the forefront creating his own unique style of design and education. Javan will regale the audience with stories from the permaculture front line, including new projects such as his work with Sepp and applications in the urban environment, a urban dog park enhanced to include food and a very special Dog Guild for utilizing dogmanure, small scale integrated home design, provincial permaculture hubs and more then a few laughs at what has been called "revolution disguised as organic gardening". It will be a night of fun and laughter at sharing the blunders, failures to learn from and success of following a passion down the rabbit hole. Questions will be held to explain and describe current projects for participants to learn from.
